For some commercial tenants, they often get confused with the term “Lease Commencement” and “Rent Commencement” thinking they are one in the same. However, a lease commencement is the specific date on which the lease agreement becomes effective, and the tenant takes possession of the leased property. The rent commencement is the date from which the tenant becomes liable to pay rent to the landlord. More so than often these terms are the same date, but there could be the exception to the lease agreement when free rent is granted for a few months as incentive.
